What Is a PPF Wrap?
Most car owners know PPF as a clear, invisible film that protects paint from stone chips and sand abrasion. What fewer people know is that PPF also comes in color: matte black, satin grey, gloss white, and dozens of other finishes. A PPF wrap uses this colored film to change your car's appearance and protect the paint at the same time.
This is different from a standard clear PPF installation, which leaves the original paint visible. A PPF wrap covers the entire car in a chosen finish, delivering both a color change and a protective layer. If you want the look of a vinyl wrap but with self-healing protection and a 10-year warranty, a PPF wrap is the product you are looking for.
Our Al Quoz studio installs PPF wraps using XPEL Color PPF, Suntop color film, and 3M colored protection film. Each brand offers a different range of finishes and price points.
What Does a Full PPF Wrap Include in Dubai?
A full PPF wrap covers every exterior painted panel: bonnet, roof, boot, all four doors, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and wing mirrors. The film is computer-cut to match your exact vehicle model, then applied by hand with no visible seams on most panels.
The film itself has multiple layers. A urethane base provides the protection. A topcoat gives the finish its color or sheen. A self-healing layer sits between them: minor swirl marks and light surface scratches disappear with heat, either from sunlight or warm water. This self-healing property is what separates a PPF wrap from vinyl in Dubai's heat.
You also get the full protection benefits of standard PPF: stone chip resistance, UV protection against Dubai's UV index 8+ summer conditions, chemical resistance against bird droppings and industrial fallout, and hydrophobic properties that make the car easier to wash.
The installation process for a PPF wrap in our Al Quoz studio typically takes two to four days depending on vehicle size. Day one covers decontamination wash, clay bar treatment, and template cutting. Days two and three are the actual application. The vehicle is not returned until every panel has been inspected under LED studio lighting for bubbles, contamination, or edge lifts. Visit our color PPF page for the full specification of each film brand we stock.

PPF Wrap Cost in Dubai: What to Budget
A full body PPF wrap in Dubai costs between AED 7,000 and AED 15,000 depending on vehicle size, film brand, and finish. A compact or mid-size sedan typically falls in the AED 7,000 to AED 10,000 range. Large SUVs and sports cars run AED 11,000 to AED 15,000.
Breakdown by coverage zone: - Front-only PPF wrap (bonnet, bumpers, mirrors): from AED 3,500 - Full body PPF wrap, Suntop color film: from AED 7,000 - Full body PPF wrap, XPEL color film: from AED 9,500 - Full body PPF wrap, 3M color film: from AED 8,500
These prices include installation, a 10-year film warranty, and a 12-month workmanship guarantee. Color PPF costs more than clear PPF because color film is more complex to manufacture and requires more precise alignment during installation. For a breakdown by film type and vehicle, see our PPF cost guide.
PPF Wrap vs Vinyl Wrap: The Key Differences
Vinyl wrap and PPF wrap produce similar visual results at different price points and protection levels. Here is the practical difference for a Dubai car owner:
Vinyl wrap is PVC film applied primarily for color change. It has no self-healing properties and no meaningful stone chip resistance. In Dubai's sand abrasion and UV conditions, a vinyl wrap typically lasts 3 to 5 years before it needs replacement or shows visible wear at panel edges and high-impact zones.
PPF wrap is urethane film. It self-heals, resists stone chips, and blocks UV degradation. The same Dubai conditions that wear vinyl down in 3 years have minimal effect on PPF. Most PPF wraps in our studio still look factory-fresh at the 7-year mark under normal care.
On price: vinyl full body wraps in Dubai run AED 6,600 to AED 10,000. A full body PPF wrap starts at AED 7,000. The gap is smaller than most people expect. When you factor in the replacement cycle, PPF wrap often costs less over 10 years than two vinyl wraps. For a direct comparison with performance data, see our comparison guide.
According to the RTA Dubai, color changes to a registered vehicle require a vehicle card update when the change is significant. A PPF wrap in a finish close to the original color is generally considered a surface treatment rather than a color change. If you are applying a dramatically different color, ask us and we will advise on the RTA process.
How Long Does a PPF Wrap Last on Dubai Roads?
The manufacturer warranty on color PPF is 10 years against yellowing, cracking, peeling, and delamination. In practice, how long a PPF wrap looks good depends on maintenance and the specific conditions the car faces.
Regular maintenance is straightforward: wash every two weeks using a pH-neutral shampoo and a microfibre mitt, avoid abrasive brushes and automatic car washes with spinning brushes, apply a PPF-safe sealant twice a year. Cars garaged overnight in Dubai's summer rather than left under direct sun extend the film's optical clarity by several years. The biggest enemy of color PPF longevity in Dubai is sustained UV exposure combined with heat buildup under the film, not stone chip impacts.
One honest limitation: PPF wrap will not protect against deep scratches or impacts that penetrate the urethane layer. A keying attack, a hard collision, or a very sharp stone at high speed on Sheikh Zayed Road can cut through the film. In those cases, individual panels can be replaced without replacing the entire wrap, which is a significant cost advantage over full resprays.
The self-healing property activates at around 60 degrees Celsius. On a summer day in Dubai with the car parked in direct sun, the surface temperature exceeds that threshold naturally, which means minor swirl marks from washing often disappear overnight without any intervention.
