What Does a PPF Warranty Actually Cover?
PPF warranty Dubai claims vary widely, and the gap between what installers advertise and what the warranty document covers is significant. A PPF warranty Dubai package typically bundles two distinct warranties: a manufacturer warranty from the film brand (XPEL, 3M, Suntop) and an installation warranty from the workshop. Understanding which warranty covers which failure is essential before you sign.
The manufacturer warranty from a premium brand covers film defects: yellowing, cracking, delamination, bubbling from manufacturing causes, and loss of optical clarity under normal conditions. XPEL's manufacturer warranty covers these defects for 10 years on Ultimate Plus and Prime series films when installed by a certified installer. The warranty is transferable to a new owner, which has resale value implications in Dubai's active used-car market.
The installation warranty from the workshop covers workmanship failures: lifting edges, contamination trapped under the film, improper cuts leaving exposed paint near panel edges, and adhesive failure caused by poor surface preparation. This is separate from the manufacturer warranty and the length and scope vary entirely by installer. Ask for both warranty documents before committing.
What Voids Your PPF Warranty in Dubai?
Several common practices in Dubai void PPF warranties without the owner realising until they file a claim.
**Incorrect washing:** Automated car washes with rotating brushes abrade PPF and void most manufacturer warranties. XPEL and Suntop both specify touchless or hand washing only. Dubai's wash-by-hand culture at petrol stations and mall wash bays is generally compatible with PPF care requirements, but confirm before you allow any wash service near your protected vehicle.
**Non-certified installation:** Manufacturer warranties are only valid when the film is installed by an authorised and certified installer. A shop offering XPEL film without XPEL certification cannot issue an XPEL manufacturer warranty regardless of what their quote document says. Before installation, ask the installer to show you their brand authorisation letter or certified installer status, verifiable directly through the brand's website. Our Al Quoz studio carries current XPEL and Suntop installer certification.
**Expired film stock:** XPEL Ultimate Plus 10 has a shelf life of two years from the manufacture date. Film installed beyond its shelf life is not covered under manufacturer warranty even if installed correctly. Reputable installers manage their film stock; budget shops may use old inventory to cut costs. Ask for the film roll manufacture date if you have reason to suspect aged stock.
**Chemical damage:** Solvents, alkaline wheel cleaners applied near the film, and bird dropping acids left on the surface for extended periods are not covered. Daily UAE heat accelerates bird dropping etching: a 24-hour window before cleaning can allow permanent staining. See our PPF care guide for the correct cleaning protocol to keep your warranty valid.

XPEL, 3M and Suntop: How Their Dubai Warranties Compare
The three primary PPF brands available in Dubai offer meaningfully different warranty terms.
**XPEL warranty:** 10 years on Ultimate Plus and Ultimate Plus 10 (gloss finish), 10 years on Stealth (matte/satin). Covers yellowing, hazing, cracking, peeling, delamination. Warranty registration must be completed within 30 days of installation via the XPEL owner portal. The warranty is registered to the vehicle's VIN, is transferable on sale, and includes a free film replacement clause if a valid defect claim is approved. XPEL's warranty process in the Middle East runs through their Dubai regional office.
**3M Scotchgard Pro warranty:** 10 years on Series 200 (formerly 900 series). 3M warrants the film directly, not through the installer. Claims process involves photographic evidence submission to 3M's regional technical team. 3M warranty coverage is comparable to XPEL on the core defects but excludes self-healing performance loss, which 3M classifies as a natural product characteristic rather than a defect.
**Suntop warranty:** Suntop films used in the UAE carry a 7 to 10 year warranty depending on the product series. Suntop is manufactured and warranted by Garware Hi-Tech Films, a publicly listed Indian films manufacturer with a UAE distribution presence. The warranty terms are administered locally through authorised distributors. Suntop offers competitive pricing relative to XPEL and 3M while maintaining comparable core warranty coverage on defect categories.
**What this means for your buying decision:** All three premium brands offer substantively similar warranty coverage for the core failure modes. The meaningful differentiator is the certification of the installer and the quality of the installation warranty they offer alongside the manufacturer warranty. A 10-year film on a poorly prepared surface will fail at the edges within two years regardless of which brand's warranty is attached.
Is a PPF Warranty Transferable When You Sell Your Car?
PPF warranty transferability matters in Dubai's active used-car market, where buyers increasingly recognise PPF as a value-preserving asset.
XPEL's manufacturer warranty is transferable to a new owner with no administrative fee. The new owner submits a transfer request through the XPEL owner portal, linking the existing VIN registration to their account. A transferred XPEL warranty retains the remaining term from the original installation date, not the sale date.
3M Scotchgard Pro warranties are transferable through 3M's regional process, which typically requires the installer's original invoice and the new owner's details submitted to 3M's technical team. The transfer process takes 7 to 14 days.
Suntop warranty transferability is administered through the authorised installer who originally installed the film. Contact the original installer with proof of ownership transfer to initiate the process.
**Practical note for Dubai sellers:** A transferable manufacturer warranty certificate included in your sale documentation is a legitimate value differentiator, particularly for luxury and exotic car sales where buyers are sophisticated about paint condition and protection history. Buyers with PPF knowledge verify installation certification; a warranty certificate from a non-certified installer is functionally worthless and experienced buyers will identify this. Our installations include a fully transferable manufacturer warranty certificate from the respective brand. See our PPF installation page for what is included in every job.
What to Ask Your Installer Before Signing
Before committing to a PPF installation in Dubai, confirm these five points in writing:
1. **Installer certification:** Which brands are you certified to install, and can you show your current authorisation? Verbal claims of certification are not sufficient; manufacturers publish verified installer lists online.
2. **Warranty registration:** Will you register the manufacturer warranty to my VIN immediately after installation, or is that my responsibility? The 30-day XPEL registration window means this should be confirmed upfront.
3. **Film age:** What is the manufacture date on the film roll you will use for my car? This is a direct question that budget installers will struggle to answer.
4. **Installation warranty scope and duration:** What does your workshop warranty cover, and for how long? A one-year installation warranty from a reputable shop is typical; anything shorter should prompt questions.
5. **Claim process:** If I have a warranty claim, what is the process, and does the manufacturer handle it directly or does everything route through you? Manufacturer-direct processes provide more protection than installer-only arrangements.

Does PPF Warranty Cover Stone Chip Damage?
This is one of the most common misunderstandings about PPF warranty coverage in Dubai. Stone chip impacts are not covered by PPF manufacturer warranties because they are not manufacturing defects. The film works by absorbing the impact and protecting the paint beneath, which is the intended function. An area of film that has absorbed stone chip impacts may develop surface texture or slight opacity over time: this is expected wear, not a defect.
What the warranty covers is film failure under normal conditions in the absence of trauma: yellowing in UV, cracking from thermal cycling, delamination from adhesive failure, bubbling from manufacturing defects. A chip in the film's surface that occurred on Sheikh Zayed Road at 120 km/h is the film doing its job, not failing.
Self-healing PPF addresses minor surface marks through Dubai's ambient heat. At surface temperatures above 35°C (reached on most Dubai mornings in summer), the film's elastomeric coating flows back into minor scratches and surface marring, restoring optical clarity. This self-healing mechanism covers light wash swirls and minor contact marks. Deep scratches that break through the topcoat layer do not self-heal, and rock chips that remove a section of film expose the paint and require spot replacement.
Spot repairs on PPF, where an individual panel section is replaced rather than the full car, are available at our studio from AED 400 per panel. For a full assessment of your film's condition, see our PPF assessment service.
