What Is Color PPF and How Is It Different from Clear PPF?
Color PPF is the same self-healing thermoplastic urethane film as standard clear PPF, but with a pigmented or tinted layer that changes the vehicle's visible finish. Where clear PPF is designed to be invisible over the factory paint, color PPF is the finish itself: your car's surface becomes the film, not the paint beneath it.
This means color PPF does two jobs simultaneously. It delivers the same stone chip protection, UV resistance, and self-healing properties as standard PPF while also transforming the car's appearance to a different colour or texture. A glossy black car can become matte white. A silver sedan can become deep blue satin. A factory gloss finish becomes a stealth matte. The change is reversible: when the film is professionally removed, the original factory paint is revealed in the same condition it was in at installation.
Color PPF is growing rapidly in the Dubai market because it gives supercar and luxury car owners a way to personalise appearance without committing to a permanent respray, while keeping the paint protection layer that Dubai's highways and climate demand.
Which Color PPF Finishes Are Available in Dubai?
Color PPF at our Al Quoz Industrial Area 2 studio is available in three finishes across 100 or more shades.
**Matte color PPF** eliminates all gloss and delivers a flat, non-reflective surface. Matte black, matte white, matte army green, and matte dark grey are the most requested finishes in Dubai. The matte finish hides light swirl marks better than gloss surfaces and reads as distinctly premium on prestige and performance vehicles. For details on matte-specific considerations, see our matte PPF Dubai guide.
**Satin color PPF** sits between matte and gloss: a soft, velvety sheen that catches light differently at different angles. Satin finishes are increasingly popular on executive saloons and large SUVs where the goal is a subtle but noticeable transformation rather than a radical statement. Satin white, satin black, and satin champagne are consistently requested.
**Gloss color PPF** delivers the same depth and shine as a premium wet-look paint job. Gloss color PPF is used when clients want a colour change without losing the high-gloss factory appearance. Deep red, gloss pearl white, and gloss midnight purple are popular choices.
Film shades vary by brand. XPEL and Suntop both carry an extensive colour range; exact availability is confirmed at consultation. Custom shades can be ordered with lead times of 2 to 4 weeks.

How Much Does Color PPF Cost in Dubai?
Color PPF in Dubai costs more than clear PPF for two reasons: the film itself is priced at a premium over standard clear, and a full color change requires full body coverage to look consistent. Partial color PPF is technically possible but rarely chosen because a two-tone result is almost never intentional.
Current prices at PPF Dubai, Al Quoz Industrial Area 2, for a full body color PPF installation:
**Small sedan or hatchback (Civic, Yaris, A-Class):** - Suntop color film: AED 6,500 to AED 9,000 - XPEL color film: AED 9,000 to AED 13,000
**Mid-size sedan or standard SUV (Camry, X5, RAV4):** - Suntop color film: AED 9,000 to AED 13,000 - XPEL color film: AED 13,000 to AED 18,000
**Large SUV or luxury (Land Cruiser, G-Wagon, Cayenne, S-Class):** - Suntop color film: AED 13,000 to AED 18,000 - XPEL color film: AED 18,000 to AED 25,000
All prices include paint decontamination, single-stage correction, installation, and the 10-year manufacturer warranty. VAT included. For a comparison of colour PPF pricing versus vinyl wrap costs, our PPF cost Dubai guide has a side-by-side breakdown.
Color PPF vs Vinyl Wrap: Which Is the Better Colour Change in Dubai?
Both color PPF and vinyl wrap change a car's colour. The decision comes down to protection, longevity, and budget.
**Color PPF** combines colour change with certified paint protection. The film protects against stone chips, UV radiation, and sand abrasion. The self-healing clear coat eliminates minor surface scratches. The manufacturer warranty runs 7 to 10 years. The film can be removed to reveal original factory paint in the condition it was in at installation. Cost is higher than vinyl.
**Vinyl wrap** changes the colour without the same level of physical protection. Standard vinyl is thinner than PPF and does not carry the same impact absorption or self-healing properties. Vinyl has a shorter service life, typically 3 to 5 years on Dubai's UV-exposed surfaces before it begins lifting, fading, or peeling at edges. It is lower cost at installation but the repeat replacement cycle over a 10-year ownership period often equals or exceeds a single color PPF installation.
The practical choice: for a car you plan to keep for 3 to 5 years where budget is the primary constraint, vinyl is a reasonable option. For a vehicle you want to protect for a full ownership cycle and sell with original paint intact, color PPF is the better investment. The film's reversibility and the original paint condition at removal are the main differentiators.

Does Color PPF Protect the Car as Well as Clear PPF?
Yes. Color PPF is manufactured to the same technical specification as clear PPF. The thickness, adhesive chemistry, polyurethane core, and self-healing clear coat are identical between color and clear versions from the same manufacturer. The pigment is a layer within the film stack that does not affect the protective properties.
What color PPF protects against in Dubai, same as clear film: stone chips from highway traffic, UV radiation that fades and oxidises unprotected paint, fine silica abrasion from Shamal wind events across every panel surface, bird dropping etching on the top clear coat layer, and minor car park contact that leaves swirl marks on glossy surfaces.
Honest limitations, same as clear PPF: color PPF does not protect against deep impacts that exceed the film's threshold, such as a direct car park wall collision or deliberate keying. In those cases the film absorbs the damage rather than the paint beneath, but both may need repair depending on the severity. A color PPF installation also does not guarantee that the original paint is in pristine condition beneath it at removal if the paint had pre-existing defects that were sealed in at installation. This is why paint correction before application is essential.
