What Is Matte PPF?
Matte PPF is a paint protection film with a flat, non-reflective finish instead of the standard gloss clear coat. Applied over your existing paint, it converts a glossy factory finish into a stealth matte or satin appearance while delivering the same stone chip absorption, UV blocking, and self-healing properties as clear film.
Unlike a matte vinyl wrap, matte PPF is thicker (6 to 8 mils) and built for physical protection. It absorbs road debris impacts, resists sand abrasion, and self-heals minor scratches through heat. A vinyl wrap changes colour but offers minimal protection. Matte PPF does both.
If you are new to PPF, our PPF coating guide covers the fundamentals: what the film is, how it works, and why Dubai's climate makes it essential.
Best Cars for Matte PPF in Dubai
Matte PPF transforms any vehicle, but certain models gain the most dramatic impact.
The Mercedes G-Wagon in matte black has become one of the most recognisable vehicles on Dubai roads. The flat boxy panels take matte finish beautifully, and the military-spec look suits the G-Class character perfectly.
Porsche 911 and Taycan in matte grey or matte white create a motorsport-inspired aesthetic that stands apart from the standard gloss fleet. The curves catch light differently in matte, emphasising body lines that gloss can flatten.
Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in matte black deliver an understated luxury presence. BMW X5 and X7, Audi RS models, and Lamborghini Urus are also popular choices at our Al Quoz studio.
Already own a factory matte car? Matte PPF preserves that finish. Factory matte paint is notoriously difficult and expensive to repair. PPF protects it from the chips and scratches that would otherwise require costly specialist repainting.
Matte PPF vs Matte Vinyl Wrap
Both achieve a matte look, but the similarities end there.
Matte PPF is a protection product first. At 6 to 8 mils thick, it absorbs stone chips, blocks UV, and self-heals scratches. It lasts 7 to 10 years with a manufacturer warranty. The trade-off: fewer colour options compared to vinyl, and higher cost.
Matte vinyl wrap is a cosmetic product. It is thinner (3 to 4 mils), offers hundreds of colour and texture options, and costs less. But it provides minimal protection against stone chips and degrades faster in Dubai's UV and heat. Most vinyl wraps last 3 to 5 years before fading or lifting.
For Dubai drivers, the choice comes down to priority. If protection matters as much as appearance, matte PPF wins. If you want the widest colour selection and plan to change your look every few years, vinyl wrapping is more flexible.
Our color PPF range offers a middle ground: protection-grade film in a selection of popular colours including matte black, matte grey, and satin finishes.
Matte PPF Pricing in Dubai
Matte PPF costs approximately 10 to 20% more than standard clear PPF, reflecting the specialised finish.
- Sedans: AED 7,500 to AED 10,000 - Mid-size SUVs: AED 9,000 to AED 12,500 - Full-size SUVs: AED 11,000 to AED 14,500 - Supercars: AED 13,000 to AED 17,000+
Partial matte coverage (front end only) starts from AED 4,000. This is a popular option for drivers who want the matte hood and bumper aesthetic without the full body investment.
All matte PPF installations use premium film from Suntop and XPEL with a 10-year warranty. See our detailed pricing page for a full breakdown by vehicle type.
Caring for Matte PPF in Dubai
Matte PPF requires slightly different maintenance than gloss PPF. The good news: it is actually more forgiving of minor imperfections.
Hand wash only with a pH-neutral, wax-free soap. Standard car wash soaps often contain gloss enhancers that can create inconsistent sheen on a matte surface. Avoid automatic car washes entirely.
Never apply wax or polish. These products are designed to add shine, which defeats the purpose of a matte finish. If you want added protection, use a matte-specific sealant or ceramic coating formulated for flat finishes.
Dust and fingerprints show less on matte than on gloss, which is a practical advantage in Dubai's dusty conditions. The self-healing property works the same way: heat from the Dubai sun repairs minor scratches in the top coat automatically.
For bird droppings and tree sap, clean promptly with a damp microfibre cloth. These contaminants are acidic and can leave marks if left for days, regardless of finish type.
